Jewelry care
A little care keeps handmade jewelry looking the way it left the bench.
Every day
- Take jewelry off before the gym, swimming, cleaning or gardening.
- Put it on after lotion, perfume and hairspray.
- Store pieces separately in a soft pouch or lined box so they don't scratch each other.
- Check prongs and clasps now and then. If a stone feels loose, stop wearing the piece and bring it to us.
18K gold
Soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, brush gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry with a lint-free cloth. Hammered and engraved surfaces hold on to dirt, so give them a little extra time with the brush. Keep gold away from chlorine, which can weaken it over time.
Diamonds, rubies and sapphires
Lab-grown diamonds, rubies and sapphires are as hard as mined stones and clean the same way: warm soapy water and a soft brush. Lotion and skin oils dull their sparkle, so a regular clean makes a real difference.
Emeralds
Emeralds are softer and more sensitive. Wipe them with a soft, damp cloth, and keep them away from ultrasonic cleaners, steam and harsh chemicals.
Pearls
Pearls go on last and come off first. Wipe them with a soft, slightly damp cloth after wearing, never soak them, and store strands flat. Have hand-knotted strands restrung when the silk starts to stretch.
Lifetime care
We'll clean and inspect your Eshkar piece for as long as you own it — checking settings, prongs and clasps. Book an appointment or email info.eshkar@gmail.com.
